Kerry Way Cancer Research Walk

Date: late July 2016

Location: Kenmare, Co. Kerry

Pat Spillane, Pat Falvey and over 250 people take to the Kerry Way to walk 71km over three days. Groups of 25 to 30 led by experienced walk leaders, parti you to can walk at a pace suitable to their level of fitness.


Walk to 3 Holy Wells and Festival

Date: end of July 2016

Location: Starting at St. Crohán’s Well, Coad. Coad is signposted on your right on the road between Staigue fort House and Caherdaniel. The well is at the end of the road, just past the car park.

Duration: 4 hours

An ancient tradition, kept alive by Brendan Galvin of An Siopa Dubh (The Black Shop Pub, Castlecove Village), is the annual walk to 3 holy wells on the feast day of St. Crohán, patron Saint of the Parish. St. Crohán’s Hermitage is one of the Bronze Age Copper Caves. This is a great opportunity to partake in this ancient ritual and immerse yourself in an aspect of Irish life. It is a beautiful walk, with lots of history en route.

That weekend, there is also an open-air mass celebration, festival with music, fancy dress competition, pet show and the crowning of the Festival Queen.

Location: Westcove. Westcove is on your left on the road just past Staigue Fort House in the direction of Caherdaniel. Turn left at the ruins of Lady Broderick’s (please see the archeology page for the history of Lady Broderick’s)
